The First Surgical Residency Programme at Vetspecs

It is with great pleasure that Vetspecs announces another South Island first!

Dr Aparna Tikekar, our 2012 SVS Merial Ancare Surgical Intern, will be commencing a 3-year surgical residency programme at Vetspecs beginning in the New Year.  This is a demanding specialist training position.  Aparna will continue to work closely alongside Drs Milner and Higgins, seeing hundreds of challenging and varying surgical cases.  In addition, for every year of her training, she will be travelling to overseas specialist centres to spend time with other surgical and related-discipline specialists.  Aparna will be expected to publish several peer-reviewed scientific publications, including completing an original research project, and will be required to lecture to scientific audiences in New Zealand and abroad.  She must then achieve success in an arduous examination process before obtaining the title of ‘Specialist’.

Vetspecs is very excited to be launching this new programme and we are equally excited for Aparna.  We know the wider veterinary community will join us in congratulating her for achieving this opportunity and we wish her every success.

Vetspecs would like to once again acknowledge the wonderful and continued support of Southern Veterinary Supplies and Merial Ancare; without their backing, this programme would not be possible.
